Smoothie bowl on a table
During the winter season, it's so easy to feel run down. The constant cold, snow and ice, gray skies and gusty winds can start to take a toll on your health and happiness. There’s a bright side though – aside from the literal brightness gleaming from the happy lamp on your desk. Winter forces you to slow down a little; focus on self-care, stay in and test out some new recipes, get caught up on all those books you made a note to read months ago. Whatever you need to feel your best as you wait for warmer temps and longer stretches of sunshine.

Today, I’m sharing a superfood smoothie bowl recipe that’s particularly effective for me this time of year because it’s packed with nutrients that are shown to boost immunity and energy. I actually love smoothie bowls in the winter because it feels like a vacation in a meal and helps break up the monotony of drinking hot beverage after hot beverage.

If you’ve heard the term “superfood” before, but aren’t sure what it means, these nutrient-dense foods are bursting with powerful antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that can help prevent cancer, heart disease and digestive issues, lower cholesterol and promote a healthy metabolism. You can play around with adding different superfoods to your own smoothie bowl, or add more almond milk to thin it out if you prefer to drink your smoothie. Happy blending!

Superfood Smoothie Bowl Recipe

½ cup frozen riced cauliflower
½ frozen sliced banana
1 cup almond milk
Handful spinach
¼ cup frozen blueberries, raspberries or strawberries
1 tsp maca powder
1 tsp hemp seeds
Optional: ½ tsp raw honey if you prefer to sweeten it up a bit more

Get creative with your toppings, too! I like to top this smoothie bowl with fresh banana slices, chia seeds, shredded raw coconut and goji berries.
