3 Ways to Practice Self-Care

Love is such an important part of our lives and a major contributing factor to overall health and happiness. But so many of us forget that in order to give love or receive it from others, we must first fill up our own cups. In honor of Valentine’s Day, we’ve rounded up some tried and true ways to practice self-care. So, take some time today – or every day for that matter – to show yourself some love with these simple but powerful methods.


Aromatherapy is shown to reduce anxiety, increase energy and improve sleep. The beauty of aromatherapy is that you can customize the experience to suit your needs depending on the oils you choose to diffuse. Peppermint oil, for instance, can help clear mental fatigue. Citrus oils like orange or lemon can help boost your mood, while lavender oil can help relieve stress and induce sleep. Place a few drops in a diffuser or add a few drops to a bath to soak up all the benefits.


Meditation is proven to relieve stress, improve concentration, increase happiness and can even calm inflammation in the body. If you’re new to this practice, there are plenty of guided meditation apps available. Some of our favorites are Headspace, Calm and The Mindfulness App. You can start slow by practicing meditation one to two times a week and then gradually progress until it becomes an everyday practice.

Home-Cooked Meals

This may be the easiest way to incorporate self-care into your daily routine. Cooking your meals at home not only ensures you know exactly what ingredients are going into your food, but also instills a sense of pride that you’ve taken the time to make something nourishing for your body. Pour a glass of wine or kombucha and pick a good Spotify playlist to savor the meal-prep process as much as you’ll enjoy digging in to the meal itself.
